VRA Response to the Mayfield Review

Articles / Case Studies

Resource Updated:

November 5, 2025

The Vocational Rehabilitation Association welcomes, supports and advocates the Keep Britain Working Review and its ambition. We thank Sir Charlie Mayfield and DWP for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Review and its recommendations, and commit to playing our full part in collaboration with other stakeholders to delivering the substantial shift that it represents in relation to how health and disability are managed in work places for the benefit of employees and UK business together with our economy and society.

We can clearly see the opportunities for our Members to become involved as part of the new Workplace Health Provision.  The case management role as proposed by the Review maps very neatly onto a vocational rehabilitation practitioner’s skill set and we anticipate significant engagement and growth of the VR workforce as they rise to the challenge of supporting employers through their ‘Healthy Working Lifecycle’.

As a member of the VRA, practitioners are required to adhere to standards of practice which includes: collecting and analysing outcome measures and feedback from clients in order to evaluate and continuously improve the services being delivered. The VRA therefore welcomes the emphasis on data collection through the creation of the Workplace Health Intelligence Unit.

We completely agree with the sentiment that ‘everyone gains if we can keep Britain Working’ and wholeheartedly look forward to collaborating over the coming months and years.
