Videos

Resource Updated:

March 12, 2022

This presentation for our March 2022 Irish Network meeting covered why migraine is more than just a headache but rather a complex neurological disorder with many different facets.

Migraine is classified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the 2nd most disabling disease in the world for those under 50, and the 4th in the world for women. It affects people of all ages but is most prevalent in the 20 – 50 age group. It is the most common neurological condition in the world which affects 12 – 15% of the population.

Linda Crosbie is the Regional Development Officer – Workplaces for the Migraine Association of Ireland. Her job is to create awareness of the condition and combat the stigma associated with it particularly in the workplace.

The Migraine Association of Ireland’s goal is to increase public awareness of migraine in Ireland for those living with migraine, those with loved ones with migraine and those working with people with migraine. It aim’s to provide as much information, support, and reassurance as possible to the 600,000 migraine sufferers in Ireland, whilst seeking further research, better treatments, and access to care.

Over 10 million in the UK get migraine. It’s estimated that 190,000 migraine attacks occur every day in the UK.
