Angeliki’s research has been focused on psychological factors that affect adjustment to a long-term physical condition, especially neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. In addition, her research asks questions about the impact of relationships and other psychosocial factors that will influence how people cope with the symptoms, how healthcare services respond to the progression of symptoms, and the effect of a long-term condition on the family. Angeliki will also discuss some of her work developing and delivering online psychological support for people with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s.
Before she came to City University in 2013, initially as a Visiting Lecturer Angeliki was a Post-doctoral Fellow and Research Fellow at The Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London. Angeliki and colleagues have been awarded a number of research grants, including several for mindfulness interventions in multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Angeliki is currently leading two research projects, one on developing a mobile phone application to support mental health for people with Parkinson’s funded by Parkinson’s UK and the other on developing a digital intervention for children with a long-term condition funded by eNurture. Angeliki is also a collaborator on an Innovate UK Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP) grant on developing a mindful eating app.
